Alice "Louise" Hand, 85, of Maxwell died Sunday, January 29, 2012, at Rolling Green Village in Nevada.

Louise was born November 5, 1926, at Farnhamville, Iowa, the daughter of Leonard and Flossie (Cleverley) Pearce. Louise graduated from Maxwell High School, the University of Northern Iowa and Drake University. She was united in marriage to Howard Keith Hand on August 3, 1946, in Maxwell, Iowa. Louise was an elementary school teacher for many years in the Maxwell and Ballard school systems, retiring in 1974. She was a member of the Maxwell Presbyterian Church, the Presbyterian Women, and the Maxwell Federated Women's Club. Louise liked to travel with her husband. She loved family gatherings and teaching her granddaughters how to quilt and sew.

Louise is survived by her husband, Howard Hand, of Maxwell, Iowa; three sons: Thomas (Ruby) Hand of Tucson, Arizona, Chris (Connie) Hand of Maxwell, Iowa, Craig (Pat) Hand of Maxwell, Iowa; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents; one brother: James Pearce; and two sisters: Marjorie Tabor, Eleanor Slavens.

Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Friday at the Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell. Interment will be in the Maxwell Cemetery.

Visitation will be 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday at the Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Maxwell Presbyterian Church Window Restoration.

The Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell is handling arrangements.
