Imogene Thompson, 88, passed away at the Story County Medical Center on Monday, February 6, 2012. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Burial will be at the Roland Cemetery.
Imogene Mae Halsted was born October 30, 1923 in Strawberry Point, IA to Romayne Lockwood Halsted and Ella Wax Halsted. She made her home in Nevada for over 60 years where she raised her children following the death of her husband, Harlan Thompson in 1956. Imogene graduated from the University of Northern Iowa and retired after 19 years of teaching in the Nevada Public Schools. She was a member of the Central Presbyterian Church where she served as an elder and was active in the women's quilting circle. Imogene had also been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She loved to read, quilt, knit, bake, garden, and care for her family.
Survivors include her children William (Daphne) Thompson of Westfield, MA, Camilla (William) Walker of Boulder, CO, Harlan (Kris) Thompson of Knoxville, Dennis (Atsani) Thompson of Des Moines, Greg Thompson of Nevada, her sister, Dorathy Twedt of McCallsburg, IA, eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, Winton Thompson, a great-grandson, her parents and brothers Frank and Irven Halsted.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 28, 2012, at Central Presbyterian Church in Nevada; vistiation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Imogene has been laid to rest in the Roland Cemetery in Roland.
A memorial fund will be established with contributions going to the Nevada Public Library or Central Presbyterian Church.
